Privacy Policy

Marksman IQ ("we," "our," or "us") is a platform for youth BB gun and air rifle programs. Athletes study the rules and take quizzes and tests; athletes, parents and coaches photograph fired targets and have them scored; clubs manage their teams; and tournaments run their matches. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Account information

  • Name and email address (child accounts use a username set by the parent instead of an email)
  • Password (stored by our sign-in provider, or as a one-way hash for child accounts — never in readable form)
  • Account type (athlete, parent, coach/club organizer, tournament director) and shooting discipline
  • Whether you are 13 or older (we do not ask for a date of birth)

Club and roster information

Clubs record their staff and their athletes. A coach can add an athlete to a club roster by first and last name and discipline, whether or not the athlete has an account; if the athlete or their parent has an account, the roster entry can be linked to it.

Target photos and scores

  • Photos of fired target cards. A card photo includes whatever is written on the card, such as the athlete's handwritten name and the position fired.
  • The results of scoring: shot locations, ring scores, totals and the position fired
  • Corrections people make when they review a score, and who uploaded, assigned and reviewed each card
  • Statistics we calculate from scores, such as shot-group size and averages

Study and testing data

  • Quiz and test answers and scores
  • Mastery levels, study progress and assignment completion

Tournament information

Club entries, teams, a randomly assigned shooter number for each athlete, card scores, reviews, challenges to a score, and final results.

Helpers using a club's link

A club can share a link that lets a parent or volunteer upload and sort targets without an account. We ask the helper for a name to show the club who did the work, and remember it in a cookie on their device.

Messages and reports

What you send us through the contact form (name, email and message), and reports you make about a question or a score.

Usage and device information

Pages visited, features used, device and browser type, general location (country or region, not precise location) and how you arrived at the site. When you are signed in, this is associated with an internal account identifier — not your name or email.

Guest use

If you study without an account, your progress is stored only in your browser on your device. It is sent to us only if you later create an account and choose to import it.

We do not collect home addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth or school information, and we do not collect payment information from athletes or parents.

How We Use Information

  • To provide the service: score targets, track progress, run quizzes and tests, and support clubs and tournaments
  • To let coaches, parents and tournament directors do their jobs, as described under "Who Can See Your Information"
  • To improve the service, including the accuracy of our automated scoring and name matching (see below)
  • To keep the service secure, prevent misuse and fix problems
  • To respond to you and to tell you about your account or changes to the service

Automated Scoring and Name Matching

Much of what Marksman IQ does is automated, and a person always has the final say:

  • Scoring. When a target photo is uploaded, our automated scoring system locates each shot and scores it under the ring rules for that target. Every score can be reviewed and corrected by a person, and a tournament score is not final until the match director confirms it.
  • Name matching. To help a club sort a stack of cards, an automated system reads the handwritten name area of the card and suggests which athlete on the club's roster it belongs to. To do this it uses the roster's names and earlier name areas from that club's cards. It only suggests; a person picks the athlete.
  • Improving accuracy. We keep target photos, scores and the corrections people make during review, and use them to test and improve our automated scoring and name matching. Our team, and service providers working on our behalf under confidentiality obligations, may review photos for this purpose.

This processing is carried out by us and by our service providers on our behalf. It is not used to make decisions about anyone beyond suggesting a score or a name for a person to check.

Who Can See Your Information

  • Club staff see their own club's roster, target photos, scores and study progress.
  • Parents see and manage their own children's accounts and results.
  • Tournament directors and staff see the cards entered in their tournament, including card photos where needed to run the match, together with scores and shooter numbers.
  • Other clubs in a tournament see athletes by club and shooter number. An athlete's name is shown only with consent given through the athlete's linked account by their parent.
  • The public sees only what a club or tournament chooses to publish: a club's team page (only after the club confirms it has permission, and only for an athlete who, or whose parent, has turned on public results), and a tournament's final standings. Public pages show scores and close-ups of individual bulls, never a full card photo.
  • Helpers using a club's link see the handwritten name area of cards they are helping sort, and the photos they uploaded themselves.
  • Service providers process information on our behalf, as described below.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of any person, or as part of a merger or sale of the service (in which case this policy continues to apply to it).

Service Providers

We use trusted service providers to host the service, store data, handle sign-in, provide the computing that runs our scoring and other automated processing, send email, and understand how the site is used (including Google Analytics, which uses cookies; you can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on). If we begin charging clubs, a payment processor will handle club payments. Service providers may use the information only to provide their services to us.

Marksman IQ is offered in the United States. Your information is stored and processed in the United States.

Cookies and Local Storage

  • A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in
  • A cookie that remembers a helper's name on a club's link
  • Analytics cookies, as described above
  • Browser storage for preferences such as theme and discipline, guest study progress, and the email address you last signed in with

Children's Privacy

Marksman IQ is built for youth programs and is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

  • Children under 13 cannot create their own account. Only a parent or legal guardian can create and manage one.
  • When a club adds an athlete to its roster or uploads an athlete's targets, it does so as the athlete's youth program, and the club is responsible for having the permission of the athlete's parent or guardian. We use that information only to provide the service to the club and as described in this policy.
  • Parents can turn off public display of their children's results at any time in Account Settings.

Parents may at any time:

  • Review the information we hold about their child
  • Correct it, or disable or delete their child's account
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information
  • Ask a club to remove their child from its roster, or ask us to help

If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate permission, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at the address below.

How Long We Keep Information

  • Account information and history are kept while your account is active.
  • When you delete your account (or a parent deletes a child's), we delete the account, its study and practice history, and the target photos uploaded for that person's own practice. A parent's deletion also deletes the child accounts they manage.
  • Practice photos you remove yourself are permanently deleted 30 days later.
  • Rosters, target photos, scores and corrections that belong to a club practice or a tournament are part of that club's or tournament's records. They stay with the club, no longer linked to a deleted account, and are also kept to improve the accuracy of our scoring. A club can ask us to delete its records.
  • Technical logs used for security and troubleshooting are deleted after one year.
  • Guest progress stays in your browser until you clear it.

We may also keep information where required by law or to resolve disputes and enforce our terms.

Your Choices and Rights

  • Access and correction: view and update your information in the app, or ask us for a copy.
  • Deletion: delete your account at any time in Account Settings; parents can delete a child's account from their dashboard.
  • Public results: off unless you turn them on; choose whether your (or your children's) results are shown publicly, in Account Settings.
  • Analytics: opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on above.
  • Communications: opt out of non-essential messages at any time.

Data Security

We protect information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit each person to what their role needs, secure sign-in, and regular security testing. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will give notice in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
